Committee To Review MDPI Legislative Instrument Inaugurated


Mr Bright Wireko-Brobby, the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, has inaugurated a seven member committee to review the Legislative Instrument of Management Development and Productivity Institute (MDPI).

The members are Mr George Amagyei, as chairman, Kwaku Odame Takyi, Director General of MDPI, Dr Theo Adomako, member of MDPI, Madam Gloria Bortele Noi, Director of Human Resource, MDPI, Mr Rudolf Kuusegah, Acting Chief Director, Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Dr Alex Eyah, Lecturer, Pentecost University and Mr Winston Osei Akoto from MDPI.

The Committee is to review the Legislative Instrument (LI) 1077 of 1976 of the institute to become full-fledged institution to train and award certificates.

The committee is expected by the end of October, 2018 to submit a draft bill and an accompanied cabinet memorandum to the Ministry to be submitted to cabinet for approval.

Mr Wireko-Brobbey said the LI 1077 of 1st July, 1976 incorporated the Institute as a parastatal with the mandate to train and equip the labour force in the public and private sector.

He said over the years, there has been some form of reviews in almost all the sectors but MDPI has not had that kind of review even though management of the institute had try to do so.

The Deputy Minister stated that in 2016, the Ministry of Attorney General advised that the Institute need to have a bill to be passed by parliament to become a full-fledged institution to train and award certificates.

According to him, in 2017, it was brought before Mr Ignatius Baffour Awuah, the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations for review and in March 2018, the Minister granted them the will to go and come up with a committee to holistically review of the LI to award certificates and degrees.

He said Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration and MDPI were about the same objective at the time they were established, but GIMPA runs all kinds of programmes, adding that MDPI would focus on human resource capacity and productivity.

Mr Amagyei thanked government for the confidence repose in them to serve on the committee and pledged to work assiduously to deliver on the mandate of the committee to review the LI of the institute to become full-fledged institutions for awarding degree certificates.
