Ghanaian international, Kwadwo Asamoah, has assured Ghanaians that he would be available for the national assignment against the Harambee Stars of Kenya on Saturday.

Asamoah’s reaction followed media speculations about his unavailability for Saturday’s AFCON qualifier against the East African side due to an injury he sustained while training with the Black Stars in Ethiopia on Wednesday.

Dispelling the rumour in an interview on Wednesday, the 29-year-old Inter Milan star said he reported to camp with a minor injury which was not threatening because he managed to play for his club before responding to the national call.

“I had an ankle injury before coming to camp. I was already injured before playing my last game for my club”, Asamoah explained. The former Juventus midfielder, who returns to the Black Stars for the first time in four years, said he walked out of the Stars’ first training session because he didn’t want to aggravate the situation.

“I did half of the training today and decided that since I was feeling some slight pain I should walk out and seek treatment so I could be fit for the next training session.

“I am not injured; if someone sees me walking out of training and feels I’m injured, that is wrong because I came with that problem,” Asamoah stated.

He argued that his club would have ruled him out of their last game if his injury was severe, but maintained that despite playing with a minor pain, he was confident that the treatment he was receiving would get him to full match fitness before Saturday.

Asamoah seized the opportunity to emphasise his readiness to wear the national colours again, while expressing gratitude to all Ghanaians who supported him in prayers while he was away from national duties for four years.

“God-willing, I will play on Saturday. I am happy to be back; it’s a great feeling to be back after four years. “I thank everybody for their prayers and support and God-willing I hope together Ghana can achieve great things,” affirmed the midfielder who looks set to make his 70th international appearance.
