Eoco Orders Local Nugs – Uds Wa Campus To Refund Students

Useful Tips To Consider Before Buying A Second-hand Laptop

The economic and organized crime office has ordered the local NUGS Secretariat led by Isaac Opoku Boateng to refund students who registered for the biometric passport a sum of GH¢ 20.00 each with immediate effect.

On the 25th of April 2018, Youth Parliament UDS WA chapter filled a complain to the Upper West regional branch of the Economic and Organized crime Office to investigate the local NUGS of UDS Wa campus for allegedly charging students an amount of Gh¢100.00 each instead of Gh¢50.00 for a biometric passport registration.

This became necessary after an earlier petition by Youth Parliament to the the Vice Dean of students demanding accountability from the SRC/NUGS failed to yield the desired outcome as a result of the failure on the part of the leadership of NUGS/SRC to comply with a directive from the Vice Dean of students mandating the SRC/NUGS to hold a forum to account to the students body.

Fast forward, The Youth Parliament following the failure of the SRC/NUGS to render account in line with the directives of the Vice Dean where issues regarding the alleged extra monies collected by the local NUGS could be addressed petitioned the Judicial board of the SRC on the same issue. Unfortunately, the leadership of the NUGS failed to appear before the board claiming that they are not answerable to the Judicial Board.

It is worth noting that the NUGS leadership earlier in February was invited by Youth Parliament to present a paper on the motion ” the state of the NUGS, achievements and the way forward ” but the they failed to appear before the House on two different occasions.

The EOCO upon receiving the complains on petitions conducted an investigation in to the matter and has arrived at a conclusion that an amount of GH¢20.00 be refunded to each student who registered for the biometric passport.

The Youth Parliament wish to thank all and sundry for the unflinching support during the fight for good and accountable leadership. All honourable members of the house are well recognized for their vociferous fight.

The house however wish to state clearly without fear of contradiction that this is not an attempt to witch hunt or tarnish the image of any individual or group. It is in fulfilment of our objectives as stipulated in the standing orders and our quest to make Ghana a better place for all.

God bless UDS and make Youth Parliament greater and stronger.
