Poor communication necessitated postponement of fishing ban – John Boadu concedes

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) says government’s decision to postpone the implementation of the closed season for fishing was because there were lapses in communication and consultation with fishermen and other stakeholders in the industry.

According to the General Secretary of the party, John Boadu, even though the policy was good, the lack of a broad consultation with the fishermen generated several agitations.

Addressing a thanksgiving service in Cape Coast, the Central Region capital, to mark the 71st anniversary of the formation of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), John Boadu, also indicated the decision on the Ameri deal by government is purely on the basis of value for money audit that was carried out and many startling revelations are in the offing.

The governing NPP holds that it descended from the UGCC.

Addressing the party faithful after the sermon, John Boadu indicated that Ghana has a strong President in Nana Akufo-Addo who ensures nothing untoward happens under his watch.

John Boadu also said several documents are being scrutinised by the government based on a value for money audit.

He called for humility, selflessness and a demonstration of integrity by both party executive and government appointees to ensure the electorates become the ultimate winners.

Closed season

Government was forced to postpone the ban on all fishing activities in Ghana, which was expected to start August 7, 2018.

The government’s decision follows a series of agitations raised against the planned implementation with many of the fisherfolk vowing to violate the order.

The ban on fishing, according to the government, was meant to replenish dwindling fish stock in the sea, a claim fisherfolks have discredited.
